Speaker @ Dutch Joomla Days 2010!

On April 29, 2010 · 1 Comments

The Joomladays are a couple of days where everyone who uses Joomla professionally or for private reasons can meet with other people using Joomla and the experts and creators of Joomla. All in all a very nice event to do some networking and getting the name of ManualsFountain out in the community, by being a speaker at this event.

An interesting story…

First of all ManualsFountain would like to give thanks to all the people organizing this wonderful event.
The JoomlaDys NL took place on April 23rd and 24th, 2010 in Utrecht and ManualsFountain was there, with an interesting story to tell.

Getting ready to give the presentation. Beamers and laptops...

Supporting your clients…

As a web developer you need a very keen eye to see where your customers will have difficulties managing their new websites. So you need to support them. But how? There are many ways of support and some are quite time consuming and some are very frustrating for end-users. The fun of your job is going quickly down the drain if 20 customers are calling about the same problem, and the problem is a basic Joomla action or feature.

The view of the End-User

Marc Barteling View Marc Barteling's LinkedIn profile, CEO of ManualsFountain.com, presented the case of Natascha, the end-user of Joomla and the difficulty she had with finding the best way to change her websites menus. Marc outlined that there were lots of sources for help and Natascha tried each source. Some were frustrating to use, others were hard to access.
Fortunately, ManualsFountain has a solution available for the support problems that lots of web developers face: Professional Video-Tutorials. These video tutorials take the end-user  through Joomla step-by-step, making them familiar with all the basics. Natascha was happy to use them, so why not let your end-users try them?

"Joomla is not about Joomla."

Joomla and Origami?

For the people in the room listening to Marc’s presentation, there was some interaction too, to make them understand how difficult Joomla can be for someone who’s never used it, the audience was given a sheet of origami paper, and told to fold the ManualsFountain origami logo from it. No-one succeeded to fold the bird, without support and instructions. This way Marc made the audience understand the value of good end-user support.

Other JoomlaDays experiences

We also visited other presentations during the day. A lot was learned from the lead man of 2Value, Henk van Cann. We were surprised by Henk-Willem Laan with the inspiring story about the Marshal Smith Syndrome and how Joomla helped him and his son.  At the end of the day we had some good laughs about Brian Teenman’s story about how Joomla got its name.

I was there. A very interesting story indeed. Also: I’ve taken the offer of a free trial account. These are definitly the most professional video-tutorials I’ve come across on the net, and I’ve been searching for a while!
