How We Conduct & Support Our Electric Scooter Research:

To support our rigorous scooter review and editorial process, we rely on affiliate commissions. These are at no cost to you.

If you read our guides and reviews, find a scooter that you like, and click through to the retailer then we may earn a commission. We only earn a commission if you purchase a scooter and are happy with it. If you decide that you don’t like it and return it, we don’t earn a commission.

Our work is independent and impartial. Retailers and manufacturers do not influence our reviews. This is extremely important to us as our mission is to help you find your perfect scooter.

Read more about our four core values, the scooter review process, editorial policy, and how Electric Scooter Insider is supported.

Every year I publish my list of the best electric scooters, but this year I decided to do it differently.

With so many models to choose from, selecting award-winners was a challenge. So, to create the most data-driven list of the best electric scooters in the industry, I turned to our community on

Over the course of 3 months, I presented a list of my top picks for each award category and let scooter fans select which was deserving of the winning title.

For instance, for the “Student” category, I presented 4 top performing electric scooters. Our community then selected which of the 4 models should receive the Best Student Electric Scooter Award. And, with the GoTrax GXL V2 receiving 844 points out of the 1,725 collected, it was the most deserving.

I scaled this across 16 award categories and gathered a total of 49,725 data points.

This data was then used alongside my rigorous review process and expert hands-on tests to determine the best overall scooter, as well as the award winners of each category.

Why Did I Use This Methodology?

Unbiased and fair assessments of all electric scooters.

Electric Scooter Insider is underpinned by 3 core foundations, with impartial advice being the core pillar.

By presenting the good, as well as highlighting the bad about each scooter in the lineup of award categories, I let our community be the judge. As a result, you can be confident that all the electric scooters in this list are backed by hard data.

Why We Recommend It:

For the vast majority of riders, the ideal electric scooter is a combination of practicality and reliability with a topping of fun factor. The Turboant X7 Max is exemplary in all three areas. It is the perfect scooter for everyday use, whether you need it for your commute, daily errands, or a trip to the park at the weekend.

Take, for instance, the removable 10Ah battery that can deliver a maximum range of up to 32 miles off a single charge, with the option to potentially double that with a spare unit in tow. Why cap yourself at A to B when you can bring C, D, and E to the party, too?

Turboant X7 Max Battery Being Removed

Or its silky smooth folding mechanism that allows you to fold the scooter in just a couple of seconds.

Turboant X7 Max Folding Mechanism

Wherever you look, the X7 Max is tailor-made for the rigors of fast-paced daily life. It is the summation of a process: Turboant asked customers for their feedback on the best-selling X7 Pro model; went back to the drawing board; and, guided by the will of the people, produced a scooter that elevates the bar on what an A-list scooter should be about.

Josh With Turboant X7 Max

All of this goes some way in explaining why the Turboant X7 Max is both the best scooter for adults and the best overall.

Turboant X7 Max Sleek Frame

But there’s more. Weighing in at 34 lbs, it’s lightweight enough for most adults to lift up a flight of stairs – a crucial quality for the legions of riders who live in city apartment blocks. Plus, with a load-bearing capacity of 275 lbs, it’s also a great model for heavier riders.

The long, wide, and grippy deck is perfect for feet big and small, while the 49.2-inch high handlebars are purpose-built to accommodate riders of all sizes, including those over 6ft. To put it simply: if there’s a more inclusive scooter out there, we’re yet to see it.

Turboant X7 Max Tapered Deck

Sure, the single 350W motor isn’t going to leave your face in a G-force twisted gurn, but with a top speed of 20 mph, new riders will be more than satisfied with its performance in this area.

Combined with its plush 10-inch pneumatic tires, effective brakes, robust frame, and well-balanced performance, the Max is fun to ride, while the specs on offer are unrivaled by scooters in the same price bracket.

Turboant X7 Max Pneumatic Tire

This sleek and sturdy workhorse is maximum gain for minimal pain. It will never let you down, and when we trim away all the vanity metrics that can be so seductive, this everyday hero represents outstanding value for money at $599.98.

Why We Recommend It:

Looking for a great introduction to electric scooters for your kid, but don’t want to spend tons of money? You’re in luck because the GoTrax GKS was designed for this exact purpose.

GoTrax GKS Frame

Built with safety front and center, this little nipper will allow your bundle of joy to develop the confidence they need while ensuring they don’t get too carried away in the process. Priced at $169, and compared against 5 other top-performing models, the GKS offers the best value for money of any child-friendly scooter.

Let’s get straight to what we imagine is your number one concern: speed. The GoTrax GKS has a slow and steady top speed of 7 mph. Most notably, though, it comes equipped with Safety Start Technology.

GoTrax GKS Deck and Safety Start Technology

Located on the spacious, grippy deck are two raised sensors that act as buttons. For the GKS to become mobilized, your child must place one foot on the front sensor and kick to go; yet, to activate the 150W motor, they must place their other foot on the rear sensor. This means your little whizkid will not be able to accelerate until they’re in a safe standing position. To slow down, they can either take their foot off the rear sensor or use the foot brake on the rear wheel. Think you can find this tech anywhere else? Nope – this is an exclusive feature of the GoTrax GKS line.

GoTrax GKS Front Solid Rubber Tire

So, why is the GKS so much cheaper than other scooters for kids like the Segway Ninebot ZING E8? Chiefly, it’s because Segway is overpriced, but it also has a lot to do with the fact that A) the GKS does not fold and B) its frame is made of steel instead of the more rust and corrosion-protecting aluminum-alloy used for the ZING E8. Yet, even with both of these factors considered, we feel the GoTrax offers more bang for your buck, being less than half the price and just as good in its performance.

GoTrax GKS Rear Wheel and Fender

With a maximum range of 6.2 miles, the GKS is perfect for family holidays or trips to the park. Sure, its lack of a folding mechanism does make it a little harder to stow away in a car boot, but it can easily be disassembled and put back together without provoking an urge to shout at a user manual.

GoTrax GKS Grippy Handlebars

Coming in a choice of five cheerful colors, the GoTrax GKS is tailor-made for little adventurers. Though they’ll soon grow out of it and hanker for something a bit faster and less childish, this scooter is the perfect starting point. And the best part of all? You don’t have to shell out hundreds of dollars.

Why We Recommend It:

There was a time when $350 could only buy you a rickety scooter that felt like it was made out of plastic; creaks and rattles are not what you want to hear when you’re being pushed down the street by an electric motor. It’s against this backdrop that the GoTrax GXL V2 came along and changed everything.

GoTrax GXL V2 Frame on Graffiti

GoTrax is a brand that simply doesn’t cut corners. Buying one of its models comes with a quality guarantee – whatever the price. So, if you’re a teen or student looking for an affordable entry point into the world of electric scooters, the GXL V2 is the best place to start.

Priced at $349, the V2 is a surprisingly robust pair of wheels that will get you around campus or to a friend’s house with minimal fuss. It represents outstanding value for money, bringing all the excellence of a modern electric scooter to your fingertips without forcing you to dip too deeply into your student loan or hard-earned money pot. The catch? Well, there isn’t one.

Riding the GoTrax GXL V2

Capable of a zippy top speed of 15.5 mph and a maximum range of 12 miles, it has enough power in its locker to become your first love. This power doesn’t come at the cost of comfort; thanks to its pair of plush pneumatic tires, the V2 absorbs most imperfections thrown up by roads and sidewalks to deliver a smooth riding experience. Compared to other scooters in its price class, its tires are a real premium – most other models are equipped with cheaply made solid rubber tires that have absolutely no shock absorption.

GoTrax GXL V2 Pneumatic Tire

And if you suddenly see your crush on the other side of the street? With its impressive dual-braking system, you can rely on its rear mechanical and front electronic brake pairing. Again, finding a scooter in the V2’s price class with a braking system that spreads stopping power across both wheels is extremely rare.

GoTrax GXL V2 Disc Brake

Crucially, this scooter also looks the part. Sporting a matte black finish that is artfully juxtaposed with the GoTrax logo and accentuated by ribbons of red cabling, it is a great accessory for the fashion-conscious.

But this is a serious piece of machinery, after all, so substance trumps style. Thankfully, GoTrax comes out top of the class in its price range. The frame is made of an aerospace-grade aluminum alloy that will survive wear and tear, while the deck is spacious and grippy enough to ensure you always have a steady footing. The handlebars, though simple, are ergonomic and effective.

GoTrax GXL V2 Frame From the Side

The GoTrax GXL V2 is destined to become a model many riders remember fondly as their first foray into electric scooters. It’s built for this very purpose; affordable, durable, and heaps of fun. The value it represents distinguishes it as the indisputable valedictorian of the sub-$350 class.

Why We Recommend It:

Just need a reliable and resilient set of wheels to get you places faster? Fed up with public transport, but don’t have a big budget to spend on a greener, more enjoyable alternative? Ladies and gentlemen: introducing the GoTrax Apex.

GoTrax Apex Frame

With a top speed of 15.5 mph, a maximum range of 15 miles, and a zippy recharging time of just 4 hours, the Apex lives up to its name when it comes to budget scooters.

Granted, you’ll find no suspension system or responsive display here – but that’s not what this spirited mule is about. It knows its job and does it with no fuss whatsoever, providing you with a fun and convenient way of going about town that won’t leave you sighing or tutting at strangers.

GoTrax Apex Handlebars & LED Display

Sporting two 8.5-inch pneumatic tires that deliver admirable shock absorption from imperfections in the road, the Apex won’t leave your muscles and joints begging for mercy. We’d even go as far as saying this scooter is more comfortable to ride than the Unagi Model One, which costs a comparatively eye-watering $990.

GoTrax Apex Slick Tire Tread

This comfort is abetted by the simple-yet-sleek handlebars and expansive, grip-lathered deck, which crucially, also houses the Apex’s battery. I say crucially because its positioning delivers a lower center of gravity, which, in turn, translates into a more balanced, controlled feeling that makes handling the scooter a lot easier.

GoTrax Apex Low Lying Deck

But of course, even at $359, the Apex would be a waste of money if it just fell apart after a few months. Rest easy, we’ve had our hands on this scooter for the last 2 years and can confidently say that it’s built to last. The familiar matte black frame might look great, but it's made of strong stuff – aerospace-grade aluminum alloy, to be precise. It also flaunts an IPX4 water-resistance rating, meaning light showers and shallow puddles are nothing to worry about.

Importantly, for a scooter designed to make urban travel easier, the Apex is exceedingly portable. It folds down with one simple click, making it perfect for last-mile commuting and a breeze to fit in a car trunk. Weighing 32 lbs, you can carry it up a flight of stairs without bursting a blood vessel.

GoTrax Apex Handlebar Stem

There’s no shying away from the fact that this scooter represents outstanding value for money if you’re a first-time rider or somebody looking for a scooter that you can count on.

Why We Recommend It:

Commuting is a necessary evil. For most of us, it’s an inescapable part of the daily routine. But that doesn’t mean it has to ruin your day. One way of transforming it into something enjoyable is to buy an electric scooter – and when it comes to finding the right one, the Turboant M10 is hard to beat.

Why? For starters, it’s excellent value for money. For $449.98, you get a portable, lightweight, zippy scooter with the stamina and ride quality you’d expect from a model edging towards double that price. As a result, the M10 carves out its crown as king of the $500 bracket.

Turboant M10 Sleek Chassis

With its plucky 36V 350W motor delivering a top speed of 20 mph, the M10 is one of the fastest scooters around when compared to similarly priced models. Its maximum range of 18 miles is also attention-grabbing, though the one drawback is its lack of removable battery (for that, check out its big bro, the Turboant X7 Max).

Turboant M10 Rear Motor

Its admirable speed and range aside, what elevates the M10 to the highest echelons of commuter scootery is its portability. Weighing just 29.8 lbs, it can be carried around with ease, making it perfect for hopping onto trains or navigating flights of stairs. And when you need to stow it under a desk or inside storage, the quick folding mechanism means you can have it compacted down and ready to go in mere seconds. This is a big improvement on previous Turboant models because the combination of a loop and protruding hook means you don’t need to write off minutes of your day trying to get the folded stem to lock down into place.

Turboant M10 Folded

The M10 is also an absolute joy to ride. Though it doesn’t come with a suspension system (you can’t have it all), the lavish 10-inch tires do a regal job of absorbing shocks and cushioning the terrain. The fact the battery is stored in its spacious deck also plays a leading role since it affords the scooter a low center of gravity and enhances its handling.

Turboant M10 Plush Tire

And if you need to stop suddenly to avoid crashing into a slow walker? The M10 has your – and their – back covered. Though nothing groundbreaking, its braking distance of 4.0 meters from 15 mph delivers reliable stopping performance for a scooter that costs less than $450.

Turboant M10 Rear Disc Brake

You’ll also be pleased to find that the M10 comes with a bright display that grants you access to all your core stats including speed and battery life, while its lighting package is more than ample for well-lit city streets – though, it’s always a good idea to buy extra lights.

Turboant M10 Elongated Display

So, there you have it: sturdy, nimble, and portable, the M10 is manna from heaven if you’re looking for a durable commuter scooter that won’t cost you the earth. You’ll be the talk of the office.

Why We Recommend It:

There aren’t many occasions that warrant appreciation for the qualities of a mosquito. But when a brand harnesses the nimble, flitting nature of our winged nemesis and delivers a scooter custom-made for the unpredictability of modern city life, you can only sit back and nod in approval.

Spawned from a collaboration between FluidFreeRide and commuter scooter rockstar, E-TWOW, the Mosquito has redefined expectations of what’s possible in the ultra-portable category. Can it be carried and stored with consummate ease? That’s a given. Does it weigh about the same as one large watermelon? Of course it does. What isn’t so predictable is that it’s also exceptionally powerful for such a lightweight little beast.

Dramatic Shot of Mosquito Frame

Capable of reaching a top speed of 25 mph and firing from 0-15 mph in a hugely respectable 5.0 seconds, it’s fair to say the Mosquito is punching way above its weight. The secret sauce? A 48V 500W motor that can deliver a peak power output of 700W. Consequently, this scooter is one voracious hill climber for such a dainty model.

This is what makes the Mosquito so special: usually with ultra-portable scooters, their defining superpower demands a compromise on power. That isn’t so here. It excels in both areas, fundamentally transforming the market in one buzz-worthy swoop.

Mosquito Chassis

When it comes down to sheer design, the Mosquito is nothing short of a work of art. There are its folding handlebars; the super simple, cantilevered folding mechanism; and a velcro handle that makes carrying this waif-like demon incredibly easy and comfortable. Everything about it is satisfying and convenient.

Mosquito Folded With Carry Handle

It also helps that the Mosquito is a dream to ride. Thanks to its deep traveling superb suspension system – the best of any ultra-portable scooter – it soaks up the vibrations from its puncture-proof solid tires. Who needs air-filled tires when you have dual springs, aye?

Mosquito Rear Spring

The solid tires are, in fact, indicative of the Mosquito’s tough center. It’s reliable and low-maintenance, bringing the expertise of its collaborators to the fore with its robust-yet-lightweight aluminum-alloy frame, sturdy stem, and long grippy deck. Everything feels solid, which enhances the sense of control you get when riding it.

Mosquito Front Tire Tread

Added bonus: it looks slick enough for Batman.

Rounding everything off is an excellent triple-braking system that helps you stay in control whatever your speed, and an LCD display that is impervious to sun glare.

Mosquito Cockpit

We could go on and on about the Mosquito. It’s a marvel of engineering and a real example of how collaboration can produce stunning results. Priced at $999, it’s worth every cent.

Why We Recommend It:

The Apollo Air 2022 represents a huge leap forward when measuring it up against 2021’s installment. Here, we have another case of a respected brand listening to feedback from its customers to improve a formula that was already winning plaudits. This ceaseless desire to be better is what has made Apollo one of the best brands in the industry.

For all its qualities – and believe us, the Air 2022 has many – where it truly stands out in comparison to other scooters is its waterproofing credentials.

Apollo Air 2022 Curved Line and Flowing Chassis

This is a scooter that, on the surface at least, is all about minimalism and excelling in the basics. Its 500W motor delivers a top speed of 21 mph, equating to 43% more power than the Air Pro 2021, while the 36V 15Ah battery has a maximum range of 31 miles in its locker and summons 44% more energy than its predecessor.

Apollo Air 2022 Tire Tread

Retaining 2021’s lightweight profile, it’s clear that striking a balance between portability and performance was the guiding principle of this redesign, but more subtle are the changes that have earned the Air 2022 its place in this list.

Apollo Air 2022 Folded Frame

Whereas the Air 2021 had an IPX4 water-resistance rating, the 2022’s offering now comes with an IP54 rating. The difference here is that, as well as being protected against splashes of water from any angle, it’s also now impervious to dust and debris ingress.

Apollo Air 2022 Frame

Another important element here is the improved frame, which is now coated in an oil-based graphite paint that is anti-corrosive, therefore making it less vulnerable to external conditions.

Apollo Air 2022 Graphite Paint and Logo on Stem

What’s more, the cable management has been improved considerably; there’s no longer any overhanging, with all wiring threaded through the frame to make it less exposed.

Even the fenders provide exceptional protection against splashback thanks to their elongated designs that wrap around the front and rear tires.

Apollo Air 2022 Front Fender

And just as crucially, the charging port is covered by a protective cap to ensure that no water gets in and messes with the circuitry. All of this combined amounts to a scooter that has been perfectly designed to meet the increasing demand for better waterproofing.

Josh on Apollo Air 2022

No scooter is completely immune to Mother Nature’s outbursts, of course, and the Apollo Air is no different. But it is the best-equipped model under $1,000, and with all its other considerable qualities – including its best-in-class ride quality, outstanding folding mechanism, mobile app integration, and exceptional dual-braking system – factored in, we believe it's fully deserving of its position in this category.

Apollo Air 2022 Cockpit

The challenge now is for brands to build on the comprehensive focus laid out by Apollo. Rain, you’re on notice.

Why We Recommend It:

The EMOVE Cruiser is the best electric scooter under $1,500.

It’s the figurehead of Voro Motor’s best-selling range and a certified A-Lister among casual riders and aficionados alike. With a stupendous maximum range of 62 miles off a single charge and an industry-leading load-bearing capacity of 352 lbs, it’s also now the rightful holder of not one, but two awards in our Best Electric Scooter rankings.

So, about that range. Let’s just say that if you’re a commuter who needs to churn through 5 miles a day to get to the office and back, and don’t have the time to constantly recharge your scooter all that often, the Cruiser is for you. You can feasibly get through two weeks of regular commuting without having to worry about replenishing this juggernaut.

EMOVE Cruiser Full Frame

The main protagonist here is the mammoth 52V 30Ah battery, which uses superior LG cells to ensure longevity and energy efficiency. When you do need to recharge, you can expect it to be raring to go again in 9 to 12 hours. You can also wave goodbye to range anxiety since the Cruiser comes with a voltmeter that gives you a much more accurate reading of your battery life than the bars on the QS-S4 display.

EMOVE Cruiser Battery Voltmeter

For added context, let’s list a few of the more expensive powerhouses it out-performs in terms of range: the Mantis King GT, the Apollo Phantom; the Apollo Ghost. None of these are ever too far away from discussions over what is the best long-range model, but the Cruiser swats them all away.

EMOVE Cruiser Rear Lights

It’s not just on flat surfaces that it thrives, either. Powered by a 1000W motor that produces a peak output of 1600W, the Cruiser can consume moderate inclines without so much as a wheeze.

EMOVE Cruiser Front Mudguard

Then we have its load-bearing capacity. Electric scooters should be able to be enjoyed by all, but too often, brands neglect to cater to heavier riders. There are no such problems here: the Cruiser can support a weight of up to 352 lbs.

Working alongside this load capacity are handlebars that are tall enough for riders to remain comfortable even as you approach mile 60 – crucially, the rubber hand grips are also ergonomically designed.

EMOVE Cruiser Grippy Handgrip and Brake

The frame, which is on the larger end of the scooter scale, is made of a durable aluminum alloy, while the deck is quite simply one of the largest and sturdiest we’ve tested.

EMOVE Cruiser Ultra-Wide Deck

And to cap everything off, it’s a pleasure to ride. Front coils dovetail effortlessly with rear air shocks to deliver a smooth, cushioned experience whatever your weight, with jumbo 10-inch car-grade tires underscoring this scooter’s formidable credentials.

Full View of EMOVE Cruiser Front Tire and Dual Springs

So, if range and load capacity are important to you, we’d urge you to invest $1,499 in the EMOVE Cruiser. It won’t be long until you’re stopping strangers in the street to wax lyrical on your new bargain.

Why We Recommend It:

The Apollo Ghost 2022 is an entry-level performance scooter that practically knocks it out of the park in every aspect.

The product of listening to customer feedback on the Ghost 2021 and applying the suggestions made, this firecracker could quite genuinely make a claim for a few of our awards.

Josh on Apollo Ghost 2022

But it’s in the Ghost’s dual 52V 1000W motors where its greatness is most crystalline. It’s exceedingly rare to find a scooter under $1,750 that can deliver the shuddering power these miniature jet thrusters can summon, and that’s what makes it such a supernatural treat.

Apollo Ghost 2022 Swingarm Suspension

Improving on the Ghost 2021’s 52V 800W offering, the motors wielded by the new and improved model deliver a spectacular acceleration rate of 0-15 mph in 2.5 seconds – equalling the accelerative power of the pricier Apollo Phantom – and a slightly faster top speed of 37 mph than its predecessor. The new motors are also more efficient, meaning that they have a better ratio between power output and power input. This all amounts to a phenomenal level of performance at a price that won’t haunt your every waking minute.

Predictably, the Ghost 2022 is otherworldly when it comes to hill-climbing. Moderate inclines cower in its shadow, with a satisfying amount of torque ripping out of those insatiable motors. This establishes the Ghost as an excellent choice of scooter for riders in any town or city who want to take a walk on the wild side; though, be warned: if you’re new to performance models then the power on show here may at first be a bit of a shock. A gentle introduction, the Ghost 2022 is not.

Apollo Ghost 2022 Frame From Side

Supplementing this motor power is a 52V 18.2Ah battery that, though the same size as the one sported by the Ghost 2021, delivers a 14% increase in the scooter's realistic range (25 vs 22 miles).

Billed as a “no frills, high thrills” scooter, the Ghost 2022 nevertheless brings plenty of finesse to the table. Its front and rear dual-spring suspension deliver a feathery, buttery smooth ride quality that’s augmented by a pair of plush air-filled 10-inch tires. The tire rims have also been reinforced – they’re 50% thicker – to handle the extra power of the 1000W motors. This makes them more impervious to cracks and splits.

Apollo Ghost 2022 Push Tire

Elsewhere, the deck is spacious and grippy, while the handlebars sport some of the most ergonomic hand grips we’ve ever tested. And, with this being an Apollo scooter, you can bet your bottom dollar on it being a durable and robust everyday companion. The stem, in particular, has undergone a revamp; it’s now 50% stronger than the original, eliminating the possibility of any frightful wobbles.

Why We Recommend It:

Sometimes, you just want to sit down. Placing your bum on a seat is comfortable, so why should you be deprived of such basic pleasures when riding an electric scooter? This leads us to a model that was one of the easiest category winners to decide: the EMOVE RoadRunner.

By any measurement, the RoadRunner is a powerful scooter. Armed with a 350W motor at the front and a 500W motor at the rear, its top speed of 34 mph blows its most like-for-like competitor – the FIIDO Q1S – out of the water. For context, the Q1S has a single 250W motor and can reach a comparatively insipid top speed of 15 mph. The difference is night and day.

EMOVE RoadRunner Chassis

And power is not the only area it dominates. With a top range of 53 miles, the joker in the pack is the RoadRunner’s removable 1253Wh Dynavolt battery. Not only does it deliver 3.5 times more power than the Q1S, but you can double your range to over 100 miles with the purchase of a spare.

EMOVE RoadRunner and Removable Battery

You may be looking at the EMOVE RoadRunner and thinking it’s more bike than scooter. We don’t blame you: what qualifies it as the latter is the fact it has foot pegs instead of pedals. These pegs are one of its best features; they allow you to lean into turns and carve from side to side. The handling and sense of control that comes as part of the package here are singular in the scooter market.

EMOVE RoadRunner Foot Pegs

And the quirky excellence doesn’t stop there. The handlebars can be adjusted to suit your height and preferred riding stance – they can also be repositioned towards or away from you, delivering an added layer of personalization that is, again, special in its uniqueness.

EMOVE RoadRunner Cockpit

Our one grumble is that the memory foam seat could be a little more comfortable, but this is largely mitigated by the adjustable front-fork suspension and mic-dropping 14-inch tires. These beauts wouldn’t look out of place on a bike; the cushioning and maneuverability they deliver go a long way in explaining why this scooter is one of the most fun to ride out of the 140+ models in our database.

EMOVE RoadRunner ABS Adjustable Suspension

Granted, at $1,795, it’s not exactly cheap. Though its handlebars are foldable, it’s also not the most portable scooter around. Its display can get washed out in direct sunlight, and it has no water-resistance rating.

Josh on EMOVE RoadRunner

But what it lacks in these departments, it more than recoups in every other. The EMOVE RoadRunner has redefined what’s possible from a seated scooter – in truth, there was only ever going to be one winner in this category.

Why We Recommend It:

What do you get when you bring together a 60V 18.2Ah battery, two snarling 1000W motors, and a pair of Sine Wave controllers? Answer: our deserving winner of the hill-climb category, the Mantis V2.

This is a scooter that has torn up the rulebook on what performance scooters can deliver. You simply won't find such a triumvirate of blockbuster features on another model priced under $2,000.

Mantis V2 Front Wheel and Suspension

With a top speed of 40 mph, an absolutely blistering acceleration rate of 0-15 mph in 2.1 seconds, and a maximum range of 33 miles, the Mantis V2 has all the ingredients required to be an alpha hill-climber, and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s a rapacious scaler of heights, capable of gobbling inclines of up to 30 degrees without any real difficulty. Even San Francisco, a city notorious for its ultra-hilly terrain, will offer little resistance.

Mantis V2 Rear Motor

The star of the show is arguably the enhanced Sine Wave controllers that deliver a smooth and controlled throttle response to ensure a finely-balanced amount of torque and power is in supply to sustain climbs. The motors, too, are pivotal (combined, they produce a huge peak power output of 3000W), while the battery facilitates long-lasting performance.

Mantis V2 Handlebars

Elsewhere, the Mantis V2 has very few flaws – if any. Certainly not when it comes to ride quality, which is exceptional in its price category. A dual-spring suspension system on the front and rear works in cahoots with the 10-inch pneumatic tires to create a riding experience that is akin to gliding on a magic carpet. Shock absorption and cushioning are in plentiful supply, turning even scratchy dirt tracks into an enjoyable ride.

Mantis V2 Rear Spring

Boasting a load capacity of 265 lbs, the Mantis is as sturdy as they come. It’s also a relatively lightweight performance scooter with portability cred. Due to its folding mechanism, it can be compacted down and transported, also fitting snugly inside your car trunk or under an office desk. Its sleek frame is tough as nails, while the deck is spacious and suitably grippy.

Mantis V2 Lights

And then there are its superb brakes. What goes up, must come down; thankfully, the dual Zoom hydraulic disc brakes wield the power to stop on a dime, even when going downhill.

Mantis V2 Brake Lever

The Mantis V2 is a fascinating concoction of ferocious power, ergonomic design, and reliable performance. At $1,899 (you can also purchase a version with a higher-quality 24.5Ah battery for $400 more), it represents outstanding value for money – particularly if hills are an inescapable part of daily life.

Why We Recommend It:

While most scooters are tuned for urban environments alone, there’s a premium band of models that thrive on any terrain. Kaabo is a brand regarded as synonymous with this category, and so, it's no surprise that the winner of our all-terrain award is the impressive Mantis King GT.

Why? Well, where else to start but with the sumptuous dual hydraulic suspension that can be adjusted to fit your terrain and preferences. This alone does a fantastic job in smoothing out rough surfaces, but add the 10-inch hybrid pneumatic tires into the mix and what you have is an exhibition of all-terrain excellence.

Mantis King GT Adjustable Hydraulic Suspension

But of course, for a scooter to truly master any terrain, it needs to pack some power. This is in plentiful supply thanks to the dual 1100W motors and 30A Sine Wave controllers. The motors can deliver a top speed of 43 mph and a monumental peak power output of 4000W, while the controllers furnish the riding experience with a smooth, yet ferociously quick acceleration rate. While we think the GT’s “luxury commuter scooter” billing is grossly limiting, there’s no denying the luxurious element.

Josh With Mantis King GT

Another key ingredient that’s gone into making the Mantis King GT an all-terrain behemoth is its design. The handlebars, 26-inch wide and ergonomically finessed, facilitate outstanding handling that makes it incredibly nimble for such a brawny scooter. This is bolstered by the expansive, grippy deck and kickplate, which together allow you to find the perfect riding position and lean in for a more aggressive riding stance.

Mantis King GT Handlebars

And obviously, an off-road adventure will require a scooter with the battery power to help you go the distance. This is another area where this scooter excels. The high-quality Samsung 60V 24Ah unit stored in its deck has 21700 cells to call upon, meaning it can deliver an ultra-efficient energy supply for a long period. This translates into a maximum range of 56 miles, or 38 miles if you’re riding at full clip. Plenty of juice for a country ramble; and when you need to recharge it, the GT will be ready to go in as little as 6 hours with a fast charger.

Mantis King GT Rear Motor

Equipped with an IPX5 water-resistance rating, you also won’t have to worry about getting caught in showers; it easily handles sustained splashes of water from all angles – just don’t go falling into any streams (luckily, you’ll have some best-in-class Zoom hydraulic brakes to help you avert catastrophe). The weather’s also no match for the TFT display, which will remain bright even in direct sunlight.

Mantis King GT Hydraulic Disc

So, there you have it, our worthy winner of the all-terrain category. Take my word for it: if you have backcountry adventures as well as urban explorations in mind, spending $2,495 on the Mantis King GT will prove an absolute steal.

Why We Recommend It:

The only reason the NAMI Burn-e 2 isn’t ranked as our best overall electric scooter is because of its eye-watering price tag. We still think it represents outstanding value for money, however, because what $3,499 will buy you is the best suspension system in the entire industry. Think you know buttery-smooth? Think again.

The Burn-e 2 is the more affordable sibling of the Burn-e 2 Max, a titan of the ultra-performance category that pretty much raised the bar several levels above what any other brand was capable of. While it stands as a more scaled-back version of the Max, the Burn-e 2 retains many of its groundbreaking features.

NAMI Burn-e 2 From Rear

One is NAMI’s adjustable hydraulic coil-over-shocks and swingarms, which together deliver the best ride quality we’ve ever tested. There’s simply no contest. It glides over all types of terrain without so much as a vibration; it’s like a hot knife cutting through butter. Effortless and serene.

NAMI Burn-e 2 Rear of Tire and Suspension

No other suspension system comes close to the intuitive adjustability that NAMI’s groundbreaking set-up facilitates. You simply dial in the amount of rebound damping that will work best for you, and hey presto, the springs will do the rest. It’s a Rolls Royce compared to its competitors’ horse and cart systems.

NAMI Burn-e 2 Rebound Dial

But of course, the Burn-e 2 isn’t all about its game-changing suspension. Its dual 72V 1000W motors produce a top speed of 45 mph and, with dual 30Ah Sine Wave controllers installed, a staggering-yet-smooth acceleration rate of 0-15 mph in just 1.8 seconds. Yet, despite this savage power, the controllers, suspension, huge 11-inch tires, and best-in-class build quality ensure you always feel firmly in control. This stands in sharp contrast to, say, Dualtron scooters, which can feel stiff and untameable at fast speeds.

NAMI Burn-e 2 Durable Chassis

Then there’s its formidable 72V 28Ah battery, which though smaller than the Max’s, still delivers an unbelievable maximum range of 90 miles. The battery can be fully recharged in 6 to 7 hours, which is very impressive considering its size and capacity.

It would be remiss of me not to salivate over the breadth of customization options available through the industry-leading interface. As well as its three basic riding modes, you can create two tailor-made modes from scratch via its p-settings. This essentially grants you access to every node of the scooter’s performance to create a riding experience that is truly unique to you.

NAMI Burn-e 2 Handlebars

I could write about this scooter all day. The NAMI Burn-e 2 stands at the apex of both performance and design; it’s a magic carpet; a genie in a bottle; an engineering triumph. Sure, it’ll cost you, but if you truly want to experience just how good it can feel to ride an electric scooter, there’s only one model you should turn to.

Why We Recommend It:

If it’s sheer, undiluted speed you’re looking for – levels of speed that will leave your lips flapping wildly in G-force winds and your eyes as dry as walnuts – then there’s only one contender for the crown: the Wolf King GT.

So, what makes this hulking, brooding machine the brutal rocket of the scooter world? What’s the galvanizing force behind its infamy?

Answer: Blood-curdling dual 72V 2000W motors and a seismic pair of 50Ah Sine Wave controllers. The result is monumental performance.

Wolf King GT Front Motor

Together, the motors and controllers deliver a barely believable top speed of 62 mph and an equally staggering acceleration rate of 0-15 mph in 1.7 seconds. In case you needed us to emphasize, the Wolf King GT is not a scooter for the faint-hearted. Unless you’re an experienced ultra-performance rider and an adrenaline junkie, the GT will likely leave you rocking back and forth.

Dramatic Shot of the Wolf King GT Frame

The only scooters that can match its speed are the Dualtron Thunder 2, Dualtron Ultra 2, and Dualtron Storm; however, none can touch the Wolf King GT’s accelerative power. Its only competitor on that front is the NAMI Burn-e 2 Max. Predictably, the Wolf King GT is also a voracious eater of hills; it will tear through ridiculous inclines of up to 50 degrees.

Somewhat lost amidst these headline-making stats is the superb maximum range of 70 miles. This comes courtesy of its huge 72V 35Ah battery, which can be fully recharged in 12 hours – on the rare occasions you’ll need to.

Wolf King GT Handlebars

Now, it’s clear that Wolf King GT packs one heck of a vicious bite. But does it deliver on the safety front?

It sure does. First, there are its dual hydraulic brakes that bring the scooter to a complete stop from 15 mph in 3.0 meters. Then we have the iconic dual-stem design that does wonders in terms of providing stability and control when riding at top speeds. The handlebars are ultra-wide and high enough to enhance your handling and feeling of security, while the deck is positively humongous, with more than enough grip to ensure you don’t go flying.

Wolf King GT Front Hydraulic Disc Brake

The Wolf King GT is also, along with the Burn-e 2, the best scooter out there in terms of ride quality – especially at top speeds. Its chunky 11-inch tires work in harmony with the hydraulic shocks & rear dual-spring suspension to deliver a ride that can tackle any terrain you throw its way. The ergonomic thumb throttle and button consoles also play a vital role here by giving you reassurance as you modulate your speed and riding modes when hurtling along at the speed of a car.

Wolf King GT Rear Tire

The final, awe-inspiring feature of the Wolf King GT’s design is its striking gold finish. However, where the GT’s frame comes to life is during the dark hours of the night. It flaunts the iconic dual headlights of the Wolf range, as well as Fast & Furious inspired under-deck LEDs, turn signals, and a smoked taillight. Combined, it has the best lighting setup of all electric scooters that we’ve tested.

Wolf King GT Powerful Lights at Night

This isn’t a perfect scooter, though – few rarely are. It’s about as portable as a rhino, so you can forget about carrying it. It’s also a nightmare to fold.

But quite honestly, carrying this scooter upstairs will be the last thing you’re thinking about when pushing the throttle. The feeling of those motors revving into full flow is breathtaking. If you have a thirst for adrenaline and savor life’s more white-knuckle moments, your carriage awaits.

Honorable Mentions

AnyHill UM-1

AnyHill UM-1 Frame Side On

Reliable, fun, and budget-friendly, the AnyHill UM-1 is a great option if you’re looking for an everyday scooter that is low-maintenance.

Priced at $599, this little workhorse has a maximum range of 18.6 miles and a plucky top speed of 16 mph.

It nails its assignment as a budget scooter by delivering on every plane that we’d expect. Combining a sleek design with a user-friendly cockpit, simple one-click folding mechanism, and surprisingly strong brakes, the UM-1 lets simplicity reign supreme.

Most importantly, however, this scooter sports a valuable LG battery that is usually found in scooters of a much higher price tag. The LG battery treats you to hundreds more charge cycles than the average Chinese battery, creating a scooter that is durable and cost-effective.

Overall, its performance, portability, and value for money aid its status as one of our favorite budget buys.

A real front-runner in the commuter category, the Horizon is a fantastic all-rounder that will have you smiling from ear to ear all the way to the office.

Representing outstanding value for money at $799, it’s extremely portable, surprisingly zippy (23 mph), and comes with an excellent suspension system for its price. It also has a higher-than-average load-bearing capacity, which is great news for heavier riders.

In the case of the Horizon, you don’t just get what you pay for, you get more.

GoTrax GMAX Ultra

GoTrax GMAX Ultra Frame

Reliable build quality, a slick folding mechanism, and juicy 10-inch tires are all par the course for the GoTrax GMAX Ultra.

It also comes with a surprisingly impressive maximum range of 45 miles, while bringing to the party a host of premium features including a large 36V 17.5Ah LG battery, a duo of cable and digital locks, and an IPX4 water-resistance rating.

Priced at $849, the GMAX Ultra is a great entry-level scooter for those seeking long-range rides.

The cheapest and most portable dual-motor scooter on the market, the SPLACH Twin is a real game-changer for riders that want to add a bit more bite to their daily routine.

Boasting impressive speed and acceleration stats, and a suspension system that wouldn’t look out of place on a scooter twice the price, the Twin is a real steal at $999.

Apollo City 2022

With its custom proprietary mold, mobile app integration, and a smorgasbord of features, the Apollo City 2022 is a commuter scooter with one eye firmly on the future.

It's been carefully designed with meticulous attention to detail to deliver a well-rounded balance of performance across all of the critical areas that we, at Electric Scooter Insider, pay special attention to when testing scooters.

Likely to delight casual riders, design enthusiasts, and tech heads in equal measure, this 28 mph bottle rocket is a real all-rounder. Available for $1,499, we think it’s a bonafide bargain. You can also pick it up with dual motors for an extra $200.

Apollo Phantom

The Apollo Phantom is an outstanding scooter that was unfortunate to miss out on an award. There are no real weaknesses: from its next-gen display and quadruple spring suspension; to show-stopping brakes and exceptional build quality, it’s a well-balanced, expertly crafted performance scooter.

The Phantom has been built and designed according to the masses of feedback that Apollo has received over the years. As a result, everything this scooter offers is in response to a need vocalized by riders. Plus, it's one of few scooters that can continually be improved with Apollo’s upgrade kits.

Priced at $2,099, we wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the Apollo Phantom to anyone who wants to up their performance scooter game.

The INOKIM OxO has an unbelievably long range of 68 miles; however, this is merely skirting the surface of what it’s about – because when it comes to build and ride quality, this scooter has few peers.

If I was to describe the OxO’s ride quality in one word, it would be luxurious.

If silky smooth suspension, an artisanal dedication to design, and exceptional braking performance are all high on your list of wants, then this mile-guzzling beauty will feel like a snip at $2,599.

Worst Electric Scooter

Kugoo G2 Pro

The less said about this scooter the better.

A cheap and chunky design, poor and lazy build quality, and short handlebars all coalesce into an unholy alliance that results in the worst ride quality we’ve had to endure. Rickety and unstable, the Kugoo G2 Pro should be avoided at all costs.
